Quilt of Valor presentation for Mr. Bill Allen

The QOVF was started by Catherine Roberts in 2003 while her son was deployed in Iraq. Since that time, over 400,000 quilts of valor have been awarded to our veterans and just this year over, 12,500 quilts have been awarded. The mission is to cover Service Members and Veterans touched by war with comforting and healing QOV.

The QOV Foundation and the Captain William Lytle DAR chapter were honored to make this presentation to William Polk Allen, Jr. Bill Allen embodies all the characteristics of the word valor. Bill is a veteran of World War II. He served in the Navy from August 5, 1943, to May 16, 1946. At age 19, Bill Allen looked death in the face when his ship went down during the Invasion of Normandy, France, in June 1944. The proud American made three drops onto the beaches of Normandy, France. On the fourth landing, his World  War II ship, the LST (Landing Ship Tank) 523, hit an underwater mine. Out of 145 Navy personnel on board only 28 survived, only Bill and 27 others. Bill has received five medals one of which is the European Theater of Operations with one star which indicates a major battle, a Victory Medal and three others.

The Quilts of Valor Foundation and the Captain William Lytle DAR Chapter wish to welcome home and thank Bill Allen for his service to our country.
