Murfreesboro City Schools is proud to announce that Ms. Amy Jackson has been named a Mid-Cumberland CORE Regional Teacher of the Year, earning recognition as a semi-finalist for the 2026–27 Tennessee Teacher of the Year awards.

Jackson serves as a gifted specialist at Discovery School and Erma Siegel Elementary, working with students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Throughout her career, she has focused on expanding access to meaningful, challenging learning experiences that encourage students to think critically, solve problems and engage creatively.

“Amy has a remarkable way of connecting with students and helping them see what is possible,” says Dr. Trey Duke, Director of Schools. “Her love for kids is evident in everything she does, and she approaches her work with enthusiasm. We are proud to see her recognized at the regional level for the difference she makes in the lives of our students.”

With more than two decades in education, Jackson has consistently demonstrated a commitment to supporting student growth and advancing equitable practices within schools. She also contributes to district initiatives such as the Gifted Academy and continues her professional learning through advanced study in educational leadership.

Each year, the Tennessee Department of Education recognizes exceptional educators from across the state through its Teacher of the Year program. Semi-finalists are selected from the state’s eight Centers of Regional Excellence (CORE) areas, along with the Shelby County-Municipals region.

Murfreesboro City Schools celebrates this recognition, and the positive impact Jackson has on students and peers. Her selection as a regional honoree reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to excellence in teaching and learning.
